Oleta l. crain memorial scholarship
- Oleta L. Crain first attended Langston University, a Historically Black College in Langston, Oklahoma before finishing her college education with a master’s degree from Northwestern University. The Oleta L. Crain Memorial Scholarship is established for young women who aspire to attend a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). This scholarship is awarded annually in her honor.
- Criteria:
- *Must be a minority or disadvantaged female High School graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.0, or higher.
- *Candidates must have documented plans to attend a Historically Black College or University (letter of acceptance or proof of enrollment).
- *The candidate will submit an essay (minimum 250-words) answering one of the following questions:
- 1) Why did I choose to go to a Historically Black College or University?
- 2) Why was it/is it important that HBCUs exist?
- 3) What impact do I think attending a HBCU will have on my life?
- *Provide evidence of academic achievement attained by copy of final transcript.
- *Provide two letters of recommendation by someone who can speak to your character and work ethic (one must be a teacher, coach, or counselor, the other must be
- someone outside the school).
- *Student must maintain good academic standing and show proof of enrollment each year to receive annual distributions.
- *Candidate must submit application package by April 30th.
